Question
I need to design things in large formats (11x17, 20x30) but when I do, the print preview shows my one page in multiple tiles.  I have gone in & set the paper for 11x17 on my printer but still get this.  Can you help?

Answer
Hi Ed,

You can design tabloid size pages, but unless your printer is set up to print larger sizes (11 x17) it will automatically tile to compensate.

To set up your publication you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Open your document in Microsoft Publisher.

Step 2: From the File Menu, select Page Setup. Click on the Layout tab if it
is not already selected.

Step 3: In the Publication type box, select Booklet.

Step 4: Click on the Printer and Paper tab.

Step 5:You will need to select a printer that allows for larger print sizes. You'll know if your printer is set up that way because it will give you the tabloid size option. Otherwise, it will tile your pages (as yours is doing) because it doesn't have the capability of printing a larger size of paper. At home I use a standard desktop printer that can print up to 8.5 x 11, but at work I have an commercial printer that handles any where from envelope size to 11 x 17. If your printer doesn't have an 11 x 17 tray, you can't print tabloid size. If you are designing at home but printing from another location. Go ahead and design the publication as you would, but use the pack and go feature to transport it to another printer. Then set up the pages in publisher on the computer that is connected to the other printer.

Step 6: Set the Paper size to 11x17.

Step 7: Click on the Properties button next to the Printer Name box. Choose the Layout tab if it is not selected.

Step 8: If your printer can duplex then set the duplex option, if not select for two sided printing.

Step 9: Click OK in the Document Properties dialog box.

Step 10: Click OK in Page Setup.

Step 10: From the File menu, select Print. Click OK to print your
document.

Your other option is printing the document as a PDF file. Instead of selecting your printer, select the option to print to PDF and you can use the tabloid size and change your other settings as well.

Hope that helps.

Very Respectfully,

Dawn
