Microsoft Publisher - web design

Expert: Dawn Douglas - 11/24/2008

Question
Hi,
I am fairly new at designing websites. I am using MS
publisher as a way of getting started, although I realize
it is not as versatile as other platforms.   My current
frustration is that the page always floats to the left hand
side of my screen. Is there a way to get the page to center
itself horizontally? How should I set up my page settings?

Answer
Hi Kate,

There is a way to set your page to center, but you will have to manually adjust the HTML. Microsoft Publisher will not do it automatically. I created a screenshot of the instructions and you can view it by selecting the image attached to this file.

The settings depend on what type of page you are designing and how much information is going to be on each page, as a general rule:

You can optimize your Web page so that it can be viewed on either low- or high-resolution screens.

On the File menu, click Page Setup.
Click the Layout tab.
In the Publication type list, select Web page.
Under Page size, do one of the following:
Select Narrow (640x480 display) for a page that can be viewed on a low-resolution screen without horizontal scrolling.
Select Standard (800x600 display) for a page that can be viewed on a high-resolution screen without horizontal scrolling.

Hope this helps,

Very Respectfully,

Dawn
