Microsoft Publisher - Microsoft Publisher 98

Expert: Dawn Douglas - 12/27/2008

Question
I have a licenced version of Publisher 98 but my newest computer is now running Vista.  Is there any way to get the older version of Publisher 98 to work on Vista?  This is the only licensed version I have and I don't want to have to re-purchase a newer version that will run on Vista if necessary as the older version of Publisher works fine for me.  Please advise.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Barbara,

I liked Microsoft Publisher 98 as well so I can understand why you would wan to keep running it. If a program written for an earlier version of Windows doesn't run correctly, use the Program Compatibility Wizard to change the compatibility settings for the program. To change settings for a program manually, use the individual program's Compatibility tab.

Let me warn you thought. Although it may run with the compatibility option, it may not perform optimally. To use the compatibility wizard follow these steps:

Open the Program Compatibility Wizard by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Use an older program with this version of Windows. The follow the instructions in the wizard.

You can also change the program setting manually. To change compatibility settings manually for a program, right-click the icon for the program, click Properties, and then click the Compatibility tab.

Hope that helps.

Very Respectfully,

Dawn
