Microsoft Publisher - Inquiry about creating website

Expert: Dawn Douglas - 1/2/2009

Question
I am professor at engineering college in computer department. I want to create a website for my college. I want to know whether I should used MS Office 2003 publisher or PHP software to create a website. Which option will be best for me.

Answer
Hi Sagar,

I would say that would depend on what features your website offers. Publisher is a very simple WYSIWYG web designer, but for more serious design you would probably want to go with Dreamweaver or if you want a free program there is a nice program called Nvu. Bear it mind, if you design your site with designer software you will have to know HTML. Microsoft Publisher's primary use is desktop publisher, it does offer web design option, but was never intended to be any more elaborate than basic.

I teach at a local college in my community and I know HTML, but I still opted to design my student website with free software offered by Yahoo Small Business. It takes all of twenty minutes to set up and it has a minimal learning curve.

Hope that helps.

Very Respectfully,

Dawn
