Question JT, Im have trouble printing out of publisher to a new Xerox
6360 printer. When i send the file over to my printer. I get a ERROR BOX (Load Fonts) Font name: Aloe Extended Status:Unavailable. The document will print, however the printer takes a long time to print between each page in the file. Xerox has no solution. They tell me its a publisher problem. Any ideas?
Answer Robert,
OK; there are a couple of things you may have going on here that may be affecting your print time/font problem. The problem is that the font ALOE EXTENDED is not a TrueType font and is not in your new printer's memory and, in the long run, you've got to figure out how to get that font installed on your printer if you intend to keep using it. Additionally, the large time delay between pages could be due to the amount of page space that contains graphics (if any), especially high quality graphics; reduce number of graphics/quality of graphics to reduce this time delay. In the mean time, you have several options for the font issue.
If you are not particularly tied to the ALOE EXTENDED font, you can switch the font in your publication altogether. If you are, however, emotionally invested in using ALOE EXTENDED, you can try one of these options:
1. Allow your printer to substitute fonts by clicking FILE > PRINT > ADVANCED PRINT SETTINGS... > GRAPHICS & FONTS > ALLOW PRINTER TO SUBSTITUTE FONTS and click OK. Typically, your printer will pick a font in it's font store that may or may not be similar to ALOE EXTENDED. This is usually not the best option, as the substitution tends cause other errors in your publication, like spacing & paragraph issues, etc.
2. Print your publication into Adobe PDF format first by using Adobe Acrobat Professional or Distiller. I'm not completely sure how the process works, but usually PDF on the screen is WYSIWYG on the paper ... although this is not true 100% of the time (in rare instances Adobe will substitute fonts on its own). If you don't have either one of these programs, you can go to www.adobe.com print your publication online to try this method.
Like I said, in the end, if you intend on using ALOE EXTENDED, you're going to have to figure out how to install it on your new printer (available on some printers, not available on others ... only your printer manufacturer can verify this). Otherwise, you can google a TrueType version of ALOE EXTENDED and download it to your computer and install it into your Windows font folder. Or pick another font that you like just as well.
Hope all this helps; please let me know if it works out and/or if I can be of further assistance.--JT
