About Nancy Janyszeski
Expertise
I no longer use Publisher to create websites, I prefer to have more control over website content. In my opinion Publisher works great for desktop publishing brochures, flyers, tickets, etc. If you run into a publishing issue with Publisher it can be frustrating to fix and sometimes necessary to redo.

Experience
I currently teach Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007, plus FrontPage and HTML at our Vocational Schools.

I am Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) Master Certified and was certified as a MOUS Authorized Instructor. Instructional design and test writer for ActivTest, a division of Activ Training based on the ECDL's standard for end-user software competence.

Microsoft Publisher - Graphics move when creating webpage in publisher

Expert: Nancy Janyszeski - 7/8/2006

Question
Dear Nancy,

I have a problem similar to one you previously answered. I layout webpages in Publisher 2003, but when I publish them for the web, the pictures and graphics have moved up or down.

You gave someone else an answer about this issue citing "tables" as a control mechanism. I read up about tables, but I could not figure out how to use them to control the document or stop the graphics from moving.

I am a real novice, so the more detailed an answer you could provide the more I could use it.

Thank you very much.

Answer
Erik, tables in Publisher are very much like creating a table in Microsoft Word.

There is a table menu and then you click on Insert > Table and determine how many rows and columns.  They can be split or merged by selecting cells/rows/columns and right clicking > change table.

Then take the elements for your page and place them in each table cell.  You might split 3 rows into 2 columns and then select 3 rows of the second column and merge them for an image.  Text would go in another cell, etc.

You will experiment a bit but that is the basic idea.

Right click the table and select Format Table to determine the width and position of the table.  You will be fine if you just leave your table width at 100% of the screen.  So viewer with different size monitors will see a full screen.

Keep in mind that the basic width for a web site is 800 pixels, even though the new computers have larger screen.  If you are using images that are wider than 800 pixels you are going to have a problem and you will need to resize them.

Good luck, Nancy
