Microsoft Word/MS Word Table

Question

TOC.jpg
Hi Aidan,
I am required to produce a template for a number of manuals but am having difficulty with the TOC.  I have numbered headings in the document and when I insert a TOC the level 1 heading numbers are normal but the level 2, 3 and 4 headings have bold.  I have tried modifying the font settings in the TOC settings window and even when this is set to regular the numbers still remain bold.  I can change them by highlighting them in the TOC and unbolding them using the bold button on the formatting bar, or, by displaying Reveal Formatting on the task pane and clicking on the Font hyperlink and then changing the bold setting to regular.  However as soon as the table is updated the numbers revert to bold again.  I have attached a screenshot of the TOC for your consideration and would be grateful for any assistance.

John Evans

Answer
You can try to use the modify button against the relevant headings and set the style that way – I would IMAGINE that the style for levels 2-4 are set as bold, and this is coming across to the TOC – it MAY simply be that the closing paragraph mark is bold which is causing the problem.  My email if it is of any use (eg for follow up questions with attachments) is aidan.heritage@virgin.net
