Microsoft Word - keeping text in a specific location on a page when adding text to the previous page

Expert: Mahesh - 10/22/2009

Question
So I am building a document. It has a TOC, the next page is the first section. As I update the TOC it adds text to that page which then pushes the text from my section one page down its page so it eventually ends up half way down the page as I continue to add to the TOC. How do I keep the text from the first page following the TOC from moving as I update the TOC. Ive tried creating a sub-doc, locking it, but that only keeps from editing that that sub-doc, it doesnt freeze it to the location to where I woul dlike to stay permananently.
Thanks much,
paul

Answer
Hi,

I am a little unclear about the question.  I assume that there is some text section in your document which you want to start on a new page rather than starting from the middle of the page.

Try this, you will have to make the first paragraph of that section formatted as "Page break before".  Go to the first paragraph of that section (which you intend to be freeze on a page).  Then keeping the cursor in the paragraph, go to Format - Paragraph.  Go to the "line and page break" tab at the top of the dialog box.  Check ON the checkbox "page break before".

This will make that particular paragraph start on a page rather than starting somewhere in the middle of the page.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Mahesh K
