Microsoft Word/Avery Labels

Question
I can't find the Avery label templates in Word from office 2007 That I have always used. I saw your answer to check out a specific site, but it is long and talking about mail merges. All I want to do is find my label and print some return address labels. Why don't they just offer the label choices any more and what can I do. I am not a computer expert, just a regular lay person. Any easy answer will make me happy.

Answer
Select the Mailings tab and click on Labels. In the Labels dialog, click Options. Select Avery US Letter (or Avery A4/A5 if appropriate) as the label vendor. Unfortunately, the labels are listed only by stock number, with no description, so you will need to know the stock number or scroll through, looking at the descriptions as they come up for each selected number (I sure hope this is fixed in Word 2010!). To make matters even more confusing, the stock numbers are sorted as text rather than numbers, so the first one is 11101, followed only later by 2160 and the rest.

Once you have found the correct label, select it and click OK. Back in the Labels dialog, choose "Full page of the same label," type your return address information, and click Print or, if you want to save the sheet for reuse, click New Document to create a page of labels you can save.

Expertise

I've been using Word for Windows since version 2.0 (1992), and the more I learn about it, the more I realize how little I know. But I may know a few things that you don't, and I'll help if I can. I answer many questions every day in Microsoft's peer support forums and as a result have been awarded the MVP (Most Valuable Professional) designation by Microsoft Corporation. You may be able to find the answer to your question at the Word MVPs' FAQ site or at my own Word FAQ site, so please check those first! Please, no questions about VBA (macros), Registry editing, networks, or complex merges, as I have no experience with these aspects of Word, nor do I have any experience with Word for Mac. Please indicate which version of Word you are using; if you are not sure, see "What version of Word do I have?".

Experience

I have a master's degree in classics (Latin), which is surprisingly helpful, though I no longer teach. The things I am proudest of: Having raised two children to maturity, both Merit Scholars, both college graduates (one a philosophy major!), one Phi Beta Kappa (from Harvard!); having been made a Paul Harris Fellow by my Rotary club; having been designated a Microsoft MVP.

Organizations
Rotary Club of Fairhope, Friends of the Fairhope Public Library

B.A. (Latin), Agnes Scott College, 1966; M.A. (Classics), Emory University, 1972.
