Microsoft Word - new version of MS Word

Expert: Pamela Mullenix-Croft - 11/3/2009

Question
Hi there,

I had configured the computer at work to let me show presentations in MS word up on a communal screen, and had purchased an "air mouse" to let me walk around the room while I lectured. I had set it up to permit me to click on hotlinks without having to hit the control button first, but going into the setting and unchecking a check-box. But! They went and changed the version of MS word on me at work, and now I have NO IDEA how to configure things to permit me to access hyperlinks using just a click. ANy suggestsions?

And while I'm at it, what on EARTH were they thinking, replacing a version of MS Word that was intuitive and coherent with this obscure and unfathomable and deeply unfriendly version?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Answer
Hello Patricia,

You might need to connect with the IT team at work on this one. I have the site for you that you/they will need to start the update:

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/428/3443&hub=1&cl=gb,en?osid=13

This site allows for updates, and updates for hardware such as a mouse need to have directions from the HCL (hardware compatibility list). This gives directions to the hardware as to how to converse with the operating system, and ultimately the software. As end users at a business who are outside of the IT team  we usually cannot perform the needed updates due to permission challenges on the network, but this may help to at least get it started in that it has the web site queued up for you.

As a teacher, I usually don’t like to encourage any hesitancy to stay with the older versions of the software, as it doesn’t do much good. I have to say though, I have heard your reaction so very many times with regards to the new Office format. The good news? It’s really nice once you get over that awful shock.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,
Pamela
