AboutSuzanne S. Barnhill Expertise I've been using Word for Windows since version 2.0 (1992), and the more I learn
about it, the more I realize how little I know. But I may know a few things
that you don't, and I'll help if I can. I answer many questions every day in
Microsoft's peer support newsgroups and as a result have been awarded the
MVP (Most Valuable Professional) designation by Microsoft Corporation. You
may be able to find the answer to your question at the Word MVPs' FAQ site or at my own Word FAQ site, so please check those first! Please, no questions about VBA (macros), Registry editing, networks, or complex merges, as I have no experience with these aspects of Word, nor do I have any experience with Word for the Mac.
Experience I have a master's degree in classics (Latin), which is surprisingly helpful, though I no longer teach. The things I am proudest of: Having raised two children to maturity, both Merit Scholars, both college graduates (one a philosophy major!), one Phi Beta Kappa (from Harvard!); having been made a Paul Harris Fellow by my Rotary club; having been designated a Microsoft MVP.
Education/Credentials B.A. (Latin), Agnes Scott College, 1966; M.A. (Classics), Emory University, 1972.
Question Suzanne-
I've exhausted all the follow-ups! Thanks for your answer, but I'm still having problems. To answer point-by-point:
I suppose the RTL language might well make a difference, especially if the sections are actually running back to front. I would tend to think that the same principle would still apply, however: that if page numbering had been set to continuous in every single section, then pagination should be correct.
I don't believe that the sections are running back to front. Page numbering is set to be continuous in each section.
The issue may have to do with the placement and type of the section breaks. I believe the header takes its page number from the section at the top of the page and the footer from the last section on the page. Does Section 2 begin with a "Next page" break? If it were "Continuous" (in conjunction with a page break), it would be conceivable that that was part of the problem.
No page breaks. It appears that the header AND footer both follow the first section on the page.
I'll assume that the Hebrew characters for 2 and 4 are not similar? I know that one common problem is with people thinking footnotes are numbered incorrectly because the footnote reference marks 5 and 6 (especially because of the dotted frame around them) are indistinguishable at 100% Zoom.
They are different in appearance and quite distinct.
Another thought: Make sure that your footers are all linked (so that you can change just one of them) and that they actually contain a PAGE field and not just the page number as ordinary text.
All the footers were linked and they contain PAGE fields.
Any further assistance greatly appreciated.

Answer I confess I'm stumped, then. If you want to send me the malfunctioning portion of the document (i.e., the first half-dozen pages or so), I'll take a look, but I don't know whether I'd be able to tell whether the page numbers were correct or not if they are numbered in Hebrew. Send it to ssbarnhill at gmail dot com.
I'm curious, though: Don't Hebrew books start at the back and run to the front? Presumably this is handled in printing by reversing the print order?
