Experience I have been teaching Microsoft Word in the classroom since 1994, and online through computer tutorials since 2002.
Organizations I have been volunteering on AllExperts in the categories of Microsoft Access, Visual Basic, and Weight Loss for many months now.
Question Being a newbie at this I will try and explain as best I can. When writing a novel the page numbers must start to show on the first chapter (i.e. Chapter One) not on the cover, copyright or dedication pages. Unfortunately, after eight hours of trying to do this (per instructions from Help window) I realize that it will only skip the cover page and start numbering on the copyright page, etc. Yes, I clicked 'different first page' in the design tab, MULTIPLE TIMES. It doesn't work.
I had my son who is skilled in computer programming to try and fix it and after an hour he gave up.
And, in Office/Student 2007 you can't put the page numbers in manually because once you type a 3, every page before and after will be page 3.
PLEASE HELP BEFORE I GO INSANE!!!!
Answer You're not going crazy. It's not easy to do. Rather than expain it here, I recorded a custom video JUST to answer your question. I get asked this a lot, so it was time well spent.
Essentially, you need to set up SECTION BREAKS and then UNLINK your header sections.
P.P.S. I volunteer my time at AllExperts to help people, and I get a LOT of questions, so I can't take an hour to answer each question. If you need more DETAILED HELP, come to my TechHelp web site at http://www.599cd.com/TechHelp/AllExperts and I'll take as much time as you need to answer your question.
