Microsoft Word/Problems with default font

Question
Good Morning-
I had my default font (Verdana) set the way I wanted, but all of the sudden today it changed to Times New Roman and the box next to ALL CAPS has a check mark. I went into Font changed the font back to Verdana and unchecked the box next to ALL Caps. Then I clicked on the Default button. I went back to my document, but it was still in Times New Roman and still in all caps. So then I tried making the changes, closing the Word document and opening a new Word document, but it was still back to Times New Roman and All Caps. How do I make it change and keep the Default settings I want? I'm sure it is probably something really obvious that I'm missing, but I can't figure it out. Just as any FYI I use Windows XP Professional and Word 2007. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks, Sheri

Answer
Hi Sheri,

Well, in all my experience of Word 2007 arbitrarily resetting defaults, that's a weird one!  One thing you can try is to set a paragraph up the way you want your default to be, highlight it, then right click the Normal style box on the Home tab and choose Update Normal to Match Selection.  If this doesn't work, you could try deleting the normal.dotm file and starting from scratch.  I hope one of these works for you!

Sincerely,
Jean

Expertise

I am happy to answer questions about formatting and layout, mail merge, tables, graphics, tracking changes, outlining, and more. I currently use Word 2007, but I can also answer many questions about Word 2003.

Experience

I have worked professionally on MS Word since 1992 when v2.0 was launched. For one employer, I created several macros to address the issues of translating a document from a Sun-based desktop publisher to Word and then from Word to ASCII (a VERY specific application). I have created mail merge letters and labels, fliers and brochures, concert programs, investment company documents, large running tables, along with the more ordinary word processing documents.

Education/Credentials
B.A from the University of Minnesota Participated in several work-required training sessions on the entire MS Office Suite, the latest being on the transition between Office 2003 and Office 2007. I have also conducted training sessions on Word and Excel within my work setting.
