Experience I have worked professionally on MS Word since 1992 when v2.0 was launched. For one employer, I created several macros to address the issues of translating a document from a Sun-based desktop publisher to Word and then from Word to ASCII (a VERY specific application). I have created mail merge letters and labels, fliers and brochures, concert programs, investment company documents, large running tables, along with the more ordinary word processing documents.

I am creating a codebook with a table of contents, which will list several variables used in my program. Below the table of contents I will have a detailed description of each variable. I want to create an intra-document link (like hypertext? but not a link to a webpage) that will allow the user to click on a variable listed in the table of contents and be brought to the point in my document where that particular variable is explained. How do I do this? Thank you.

I believe what you want is to create Bookmarks. I haven't used them much, but if you go to the help section and search for "Bookmark" it will walk you through the process of creating and defining them. I hope this helps.
