about it, the more I realize how little I know. But I may know a few things
that you don't, and I'll help if I can. I answer many questions every day in

Please, no questions about VBA (macros), Registry editing, networks, or complex merges, as I have no experience with these aspects of Word, nor do I have any experience with Word for the Mac.
Experience I have a master's degree in classics (Latin), which is surprisingly helpful, though I no longer teach. Question Hi. After four pages of text properly numbered (the page numbers are in the footer), I am now getting a fifth page but the numbering says it is page 1.
I have also noted that the page formatting -- including margins and paper size -- has also changed. Would appreciate guidance in fixing these problems -- I have a large document to produce with columns and text boxes on some pages and not others.
Answer It would appear that you have a section break between the fourth and fifth pages. Whenever you change the number of columns, Word will insert section breaks, as columns are a section property. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/WorkWithSections.htm for more information on sections.
You can change the margins and paper size in any section using Page Layout | Page Setup. As for the page numbering, use Insert | Page Number | Format Page Numbers... to change the Page Number Format from "Start at 1" to "Continue from previous section."
