Microsoft Office and Microsoft Word in particular is one of the most popular programs that our firm, Computer Help provides instruction, one on one tutoring and consultation. I personally use MS Word for almost every task: Envelopes, Mailing Labels, Database, WordArt, Interactive Forms, Faxes, Letters, Lists, Newsletters, Tables, Email Editor and much more. The exception, Graphics and Web Pages. For graphics I use
Ulead's PhotoImpact and Microsoft's FrontPage for web site design.

Question I am having the same problem as Alice on 8/8/2008. I have made sure that the status bar is checked in Tools, option, view. It IS checked to show. However, it will not show. I have checked and unchecked and checked repeatedly. It will not show in any layout view. where did it go and how do I get it back so that it will stay there?
Answer Hi Susan,
I would guess that if you enabled the Status bar under Show on the View Tab in Options then it should show.
Be sure the bottom of your screen isn’t blocked by the Taskbar. Go to the upper right corner and click on the little square box to Maximize the window. You should see a double square box.
If you have done all of the above and still cant see the Status bar then try deleting Normal.dot.
When Word starts misbehaving the prudent thing to do is to simply replace Normal.dot.
(Normal.dot is the default template for Word.)
If you have significantly modified or configured the Toolbars as I have you might want to make a backup copy of Normal.dot so you could restore it if necessary.
(If this is true there should already be a backup copy)
Delete Normal.dot
Close Word
Use the Find/Search Files or Folders feature of Windows Start, Find or Start, Search
All Files and Folders
Type in Normal.dot
Search Drive C:
Select Search or Find
You should see either Normal.dot or Normal in the search results depending on how you configured the Folders. You might have to enable hidden files and folders.
Delete it and if you see ~ormal.dot, ~$ Normal.dot.doc or ~normal.dot delete those also to your Recycle Bin.
When you start Word again it will create a new normal.dot that is the default Document1.doc.
