Microsoft Word - TOC and Index

Expert: Mahesh - 9/26/2009

Question
I am working in Vista, MS Word 2007 with document converted to Word97-2003. I've been working with this lengthy document for a long time, but suddenly have two problems I hope you may help me with.
1. Auto-generated TOC suddenly in blue font and underlined and I cannot update it!
2. My hand-generated (with field codes) Index has been fine until now - never had a problem undating. Now, font is black, looks ok, but I cannot update.

I'd appreciate any suggestions you may offer.

Jerry

Answer
Hi Jerry,

It seems your track changes for the documents are ON. You might have to switch it off to edit the document.

Ctrl + Shift + E will toggle between Track changes mode and Normal editing mode.

or

Review Ribbon - Track Changes drop down - Disable the button.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Mahesh K
