Microsoft Word/Deleting a solid line in a document using MSWord 2007

Question
Hi,

I'm working in a thesis document. In the process of editing - I used the underscore (?)_ _ _ key and pressed enter to get a solid line to know where I needed to continue.

Opening the document again I now need to delete the line. I've tried backspace delete; delete; placing the curser over it to click on it (doesn't work); deleting the paragraphs before and after at the same time around it; cutting the paragraphs around it; tried right-click etc. to try find a border/shading I can use to remove it ... and nothing works. I've managed to get more lines in the process and got them down to one again - but I can't get rid of it.

Please help!

Kind regards,

Karen

Answer
Hi Karen,

Sorry for delayed response. In most cases the above action creates a border (instead of a traditional underline). To remove this, select the line (paragraph before and after) > Home tab > Paragraph block > Borders dropdown and select no borders.

To prevent this from happening in the future, create the line again > select dropdown on lightning bolt button to left of line you just created > Control Auto Format Options > uncheck Border lines > OK.

Hope this was helpful.
