Microsoft Word/The tabs have receded!

Question
HiSuzanne - In MSWord2007,"home", "insert", "page layout" etc., the tabs (i.e., "clipboard", "font") have "receded" i.e., I can't see them unless I click on e.g., "home" then all the tabs show themselves. Can you help make the tabs show themselves permanently?  Thank you!

You have "minimized" the Ribbon. The easiest way to restore it is to double-click on any tab. Other ways that also work:

1. Press Ctrl+F1.
2. Right-click on the tab row and click on "Minimize the Ribbon" to uncheck it.

A note on terminology: the parts that stick up (Home, Insert, Page Layout) are the "tabs." On each tab, there are "groups," and within each group there are "buttons" (even if some of the controls don't look like buttons--at least till you mouse over them). You'll often find Word instructions written using this hierarchy, e.g., Page Layout | Page Setup | Margins or Page Layout > Page Setup > Margins.

I've been using Word for Windows since version 2.0 (1992), and the more I learn about it, the more I realize how little I know. But I may know a few things that you don't, and I'll help if I can.
