Microsoft Word/Word Docs Converted to PDFs



I have created some company templates in Microsoft word with one image as a header and footer for the documents. When people use them and then save the word docs as PDFs, some of the docs are saving and printing with lines around the logo images in the header and footer. The header/footer on the template is all one image created in InDesign and then exported as a PNG.

Do you know where I might start with troubleshooting this?

I have also encountered this from time to time. I would suggest going to your InDesign file and making sure there are no borders in original setup. Even a white border that is not visible can translate to something else depending on printer settings. If you are able to print and export InDesign file to PDF without issue, I would then print and PDF the PNG. If there are any issues in the actual PNG it would be visible here. If issues persist, I would suggest trying to export a transparent PNG and also try exporting image out as JPEG.

One final test to see if image is corrupt: open PDF > File > Save as other > Microsoft Word > Word Document. I know this seems redundant but if you can save Word file to PDF and then save back out from PDF to Word it frequently uncovers issues.

If you are still unsuccessful, reply and I will attempt to see what else could be causing the issue.
