Question Hi, I was sent a doc. in SDW format ( Star Office)
What can I use to open this, Thank you, Harry
Answer Never heard of Star Office, but you can try using Word - open files of type all files will POSSIBLY work, or files of type recover text from any file. My OWN preference at this point would be to write back to the sender and ask for it in a format that anyone can read (RTF, TXT etc)!
As I hadn't heard of Star Office, I did a quick search for it on the net, and found this
"Star Office is a complete office suite, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and drawing packages, and is available on all CS Sun workstations. Star Office can import and export all standard Microsoft Office file formats so it can be used as a replacement for Microsoft Office on the Suns.
There are also Star Office versions available for Windows and Linux. If you wish to run Star Office on your home machine, you can download it from the StarOffice Homepage.
There is also a free open-source version of this software called OpenOffice. See the OpenOffice Homepage (http://www.openoffice.org/) for information. OpenOffice can be downloaded for free and used at no cost.
The first time you run soffice (for StarOffice) or ooffice (for OpenOffice), it will run you through a setup operation. When that completes, just run the command again to envoke the program. Note that any setting you select during the install can be modified by selecting Tools/Options from the StarOffice/OpenOffice Menu. The email and news settings are under the "Internet" options. Click on the little plus sign to expand the category. "
This therefore gives you the option of downloading and installing that software if the other options fail.
