Experience
Formerly the #1 rated Microsoft Word Expert at Askme.com since volunteering there in December 2000. In that time, responding to hundreds of questions most of which were specific to Microsoft Word.

Microsoft Office and Microsoft Word in particular is one of the most popular programs that our firm, Computer Help provides instruction, one on one tutoring and consultation. I personally use MS Word for almost every task: Envelopes, Mailing Labels, Database, WordArt, Interactive Forms, Faxes, Letters, Lists, Newsletters, Tables, Email Editor and much more. The exception, Graphics and Web Pages. For graphics I use Ulead's PhotoImpact and Microsoft's FrontPage for web site design.

Microsoft Word - Word won't print

Expert: Dale F. Wiley - 7/4/2006

Question
Hello,

I have a Dell 4550, running Micrsoft office 2000. Recently I have been unable to print using word. When I print it sounds like it is printing, but all that comes out is a blank paper. My printer is a Lexmark X64, I just replaced the ink in the printer. The documents I was able to print previously do not print anymore. I also tries to print using notepad and I get the same thing. I can however print fine from the web browser. I have updated the driver for te printer and the windows installation. I am at a loss as to what the problem is.

Answer
Hi Rob,

I must tell you that trying to diagnose printer problems like this way is not always successful but I will try and help.

Printers and their behavior are as much a mystery to me as to everyone else.

Since you stated that you can print from your web browser that almost eliminates the printer from the equation.

And you say that when you print from Microsoft Word or WordPad all you get is a blank piece of paper?

Unless the text color is white then I don't have any idea why this is happening.

I would say replace Normal.dot except you said the same thing happens with WordPad.

Can you print with other Microsoft Office programs?

Did you go to thier web site and download and install that newest drivers?

Go into the printer settings and try printing directly to the printer.

I don't know this sounds to me like a good question for the Lexmark Mavens.

Good Luck.

Dale :-)
