Microwave Cooking - Roasting grains or pulses

Expert: Donovan Fandre - 2/22/2008

Question
Sir, Recently i have purchased LG's7645B Microwave oven, Can you please tell me how would i roast pulses, grams or made pop corns in microwave without using oil.

Answer
Dear Reena, place 1-cup of the pulses or grains in a 4-cup heatproof glass or ceramic dish and microwave on high for 2 minutes. Stir and continue cooking in 1 minute increments, stirring after each minute, until the ingredient starts to brown and crisp. Stop cooking and allow to cool.
For popcorn, there are microwave popcorn poppers available and they make perfect bulk popcorn. You can achieve similar results by placing 2 ounces of kernels in an 8 cup tapered (smaller at the bottom than the top)glass bowl, covered by a dinner plate or something similar. Microwave on high for about 3-4 minutes or until the kernels pop about every 10 seconds. Be careful not to cook too long because the corn can burn. Good luck.
