Microwave Cooking - dry whole oranges

Expert: Donovan Fandre - 3/17/2008

Question
How do i dry a whole orange (i want them to be whole still round)

Answer
Dear Deanna, I've never tried to dry a whole orange but because an orange is over 90 water I don't think it wold be practical to try to dry one. My only suggestion would be to microwave the orange for a couple minutes to get it very hot and then let it sit for a couple of days until it dries and becomes hard. I'll give it a try to see if this works but I don't hold much hope for success. Use Florida oranges that have a thin peel so they have a better chance of drying.
