Question My mother bought a delta microwave oven about 2 years ago now. It recently stopped heating/cooking food. I'd appreciate any help, could a setting prevent heating etc. Surely a microwave should last more than 2 years my own is close to 16 years old.
Answer Dear Ashling, sorry about your mother's microwave. The magnetron tube may still be under warranty and if so take it to your dealer and have them fix it.It definitely should work for more than 2 years. Usually if there's something defective in the oven it will stop working soon after using in the home. But if it works well for a year or so it should work like yours for 10-15 years. The first thing I would check are the interlock switches on the door. They fit into slots in the oven frame and prevent the oven from turning on with the door is ajar. Locate the switches and close the door and turn the oven on and then press on the door where the switches are located. If the oven starts then that could be your problem However, this is not a foolproof test and the switches could be inoperative. The best thing is to take it to the dealer where you bought it and explain the problem. If they offer to fix it determine first how much it will be because microwaves are so inexpensive that it may be better to buy a new one. If you take it to a repair shop, again determine the cost of repair before you commit to the job. This may sound silly but be sure the oven is plugged into your electrical outlet first. Many times the plug is accidentally bumped and opens the circuit.
Good luck.
