Question
Help!  My oven has broken and I have a  0.768 kg Boneless rolled shoulder of lamb.  Can I cook this in the microwave and if so how??????????????????????  Help please or the joint goes in the bin!!!

Answer
Dear Kay, sorry about the delay in my response. I didn't receive your query from Ask Experts. Lamb is one of the best meats to cook by microwave. It's always tender and juicy and as tasty as you make it.
Shoulder - season as desired and place in a microwave container and cover with the dish cover or plastic wrap and cook on medium-high (70%) power for about 8 minutes per pound for medium-rare, 150F, 65C. You may want to turn it over halfway thorough the cooking but since you're cooking it medium-rare it's not necessary.
Leg of lamb - Season as desired and place in a glass pie dish or similar dish. Cover with wax paper or a paper towel and microwave on high power for 5 minutes per pound. Pour off the juices and place the dish in a conventional oven set at 400F, 204C, (preheating not necessary) for 10 minutes to crisp and brown the surface. The interior temperature should be 125F, 50C after microwaving and 140F, 60C after roasting. Enjoy!!
