About Bill Taylor Expertise I can answer questions about admissions to West Point; about the history of West Point; about how to travel to West Point, where to eat, where to stay, etc.; and about West Point`s alumni organization, the West Point Association of Graduates.
Experience I am a 1970 Graduate of West Point. I served six years on active duty and another 8 years in the active reserve. I have been actively involved as a Field Admissions Representative for over 15 years and have participated on my Congressman's Academy Selection Panel for over 20 years. I am actively involved in West Point Alumni affairs, serving in roles both with the West Point Association of Graduates and the local alumni chapter in Annapolis, MD. I also have two sons who graduated from West Point in 1995 and 2001. Both are veterans of the Iraq war and continue to serve on Active Duty in the Army.
Question I have a few questions. Although I have done well my first two years in high school, my junior year was very poor (family problems). Now as a senior I'm trying to pull up. Anyways my main question is about congressman nomination. I see on the website that I was supposed to do it on my Junior year yet I was not interested in joining West Point. However now i am and I am trying really hard to see if I can get in. Any advice, I already emailed my local congressman and will attempt to go to his office tommorow.
How do I stand. Low GPA 3.2. 680 Reading 740 Math in SAT and I am planing to take it again soon. IB student. Took 4 AP courses. I got 2 4's and 2 2's on them. I also believe I will excell in my IB tests. I play high school soccer that is constantly ranked in in the southeast region(NSCAA) and was twice nationally ranked.
Answer It's good to hear from you, Eddy. Thanks for your interest in West Point.
I would not worry that you did not contact your congressman at the end of your Junior year. Write him/her a letter NOW (samples are found on the Admissions website at www.westpoint.edu/admissions) and also to your two Senators. It's likely not too late yet, but you can't wait much longer.
Your SAT scores are well above the average for incoming cadets, which is good for your competitive position.
Keep up the good work, Eddy, and you will be competitive for admission.
