About Bill Taylor Expertise I can answer questions about admissions to West Point; about the history of West Point; about how to travel to West Point, where to eat, where to stay, etc.; and about West Point`s alumni organization, the West Point Association of Graduates.
Experience I am a 1970 Graduate of West Point. I served six years on active duty and another 8 years in the active reserve. I have been actively involved as a Field Admissions Representative for over 15 years and have participated on my Congressman's Academy Selection Panel for over 20 years. I am actively involved in West Point Alumni affairs, serving in roles both with the West Point Association of Graduates and the local alumni chapter in Annapolis, MD. I also have two sons who graduated from West Point in 1995 and 2001. Both are veterans of the Iraq war and continue to serve on Active Duty in the Army.
Question Could you please tell me a little about the Greene West Point legacy? I haven't had much luck, I just know that Brig. Gen. Michael J. Green means a lot to me ( he was class president at the USMA) and was at my fathers funeral years ago. We as a family found it to be the greatest gift to my fathers service. My family is curious about him and his son , who is active. Our son is a Sgt. and asks me frequently how is his friend Gen. Greene who ate lunch with him and " changed the dynamic of his life?"
Answer It's good to hear from you, Harry. Thanks for your interest in West Point. I apologize for the delayed response as I have been slammed with travel and work.
My source is the "Register of Graduates and Former Cadets of the US Military Academy," published annually by the West Point Association of Graduates. By "Greene West Point legacy" I presume you refer to the other members of his family, including BOTH of his Grandfathers, his Father and a Grandson who are West Point Graduates. Per the "Register", Michael Joseph Lenihan Greene graduated with the Class of 1941. He served with distinction in World War II in the European Theater, earning the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart decorations. He served in numerous high level staff assignments in the 1950s and later served several tours in Vietnam, including assignments both as an Assistant Division Commander and as a Commanding General. He retired from the Army in 1971 after 30 years of service. After his Army service he pursued several secondary careers in civilian life. He presently lives in Washington, DC. Unfortunately the "Register" has no information regarding his son.
Due to privacy restrictions I am not permitted to reveal any further personal information about BG Greene. You might be able to learn more yourself from a "Register" found in most large public libraries.
I hope this response helps your family get a little closer to a man who had an impact on many of your lives.
