Question
I have seen the documentary'Andersons Platoon'and at the end it lists Lt Andersons awarded medals as 2 silver stars,5 bronze stars, 11 air medals, and 2 of another that I cant recall. I am very interested in the official account of his citations but cannot find them in any data base I have searched. By all accounts this is a remarkable man and among many accomplishments even taught at the Academy and spoke at the 2007 graduation ceremony. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would truly like to honor this man by using him as an example for my children to emulate.
Thank You
Ralph Florio

Answer
It's good to hear from you, Ralph.  Thanks for your interest in West Point.

Joe Anderson of the Class of 1965 is indeed a great man and American hero.  I was fortunate to know him in the 1990s when we both served as Trustees (He as a Trustee Emeritus) of the West Point Association of Graduates.

I have done some digging and the lack of information you seek is unfortunately a reality.  Please see:

    http://www.homeofheroes.com/verify/

The lead quote from that page reads, "Other than the Medal of Honor, the various branches of service have not attempted to compile or make available the names and citations of ALL of even our most highly decorated military veterans."  There is more at the address above.

I did find a few interesting links for Joe Anderson and share them with you here:

Sorry I could not have been more help.  Good luck in your quest.

Best Regards,
