Expert: william oneill - 11/7/2009
Question Having trouble understanding the scope of GO #33 WD 1945.
I understand the acronyms, but does this General Order cover all the campaign medals? For instance, I see GO#19 cover the Purple Heart, and GO#2 the Good Conduct Medal, but I see GO#33 behind the EAME and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medals. Also, I don't understand why the words "as amended" after the GO #33 WD 45.
Is there a site that I can go to read GO#33 45 in it's entirety?
Thank you.
Answer David,
General Order#33 only covers the EAME and PTO Campaign Medals. The "as amended" means that someone asked a question not covered by the original general order. The War Department added language that covered the discrepancy, therefore, the as amended.
You can go online at the Center of Military History website or try the Institute of Heraldry's website; that is the department that approves all medals and insignia in use by the Army.
Hope this helps
Bill
