Question
I have my grandfather's WW1 uniform.  on the left sleeve at almost wrist hright are 2 cheverons pointing down.  What are the meaning of these.  TIA

Answer
Those are overseas service chevrons.  They indicated the wearer was stationed overseas for six months.  It began as a special way to recognize those who had actually been "over there" in WW1 as opposed to those who stayed stateside for their entire enlistment.  They are still used today but they look somewhat different.
