Military History/APO Information

Dear Sir, I'm a retired army vet, but I'm looking for any information I can for the location of APO 9883 between 1942 and 1945. My wifes father was there and we are trying to figure where he served. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you. Tim

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your question.  APO 9883 had its mail processed through the New York Port of Embarkation.  Located at Algeria, North Africa, the date APO 9883 opened was March 2, 1944.  APO 9883 was termed a Temporary APO, used generally for overflow.  APO 9883 was the overflow for APO 698.
APO 698 was assigned to the 2628th Hospital Section.  Also having its mail processed through the New York Port of Embarkation, APO 698 opened at Algiers, Algeria, North Africa on January 7, 1943.  The following are the locations & dates of APO 698 into 1947:

You are welcome to send me via First Class USPS a photocopy of your father-in-law's Discharge Documents (WD AGO FORM 53-55, dated November 1, 1944).  Please include your e-mail address, so that I may share with you any facts I glean from the document(s).
       Good Luck with your quest.

Can answer: World War Two. Specifically, the troop transport ships that took US Military Personnel overseas & returned them to the US, 1941-47. Also, unit history of US Army QM, Signal, MP, Ordnance, Medical, Transportation & Engineer units that served during WW 2. The more obscure units are my specialty. If you have the APO that a Veteran sent letters from or received letters at, I can look up the history of that APO.
