Question
I am a volunteer for the Heritage Center at the Yuma Proving Ground, Yuma Az. I am researching the 60th Ordnance Group. I believe they have had units in the Desert Training Center or Camp Bouse. I believe that two of the units were the 340th Ordnance Bn, and the other was the 554th Heavy Maintenance Bn or the 554th Engineer Combat Heavy Pontoon Bn. Any help would be most appreciated.

Answer
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your question.  I can confirm that the 60th Ordnance Group was assigned to the US Ninth Army, ETO, 1944-45.  The Order of Battle is as follows:

         60th ORDNANCE GROUP

260th Ordnance Battalion
  181st Ordnance Depot Company
  314th Ordnance Depot Company
  333rd Ordnance Depot Company
  954th Ordnance Depot Company
330th Ordnance Battalion
  330th Ordnance Maintenance Company
3419th Ordnance Medium Automotive Maintenance Company
3445th Ordnance Medium Automotive Maintenance Company
3525th Ordnance Medium Automotive Maintenance Company
334th Ordnance Battalion
  117th Ordnance Bomb Disposal Squadron
  482nd Ordnance Evacuation Company
  485th Ordnance Evacuation Company
911th Ordnance Heavy Automotive Maintenance Company
340th Ordnance Battalion
  104th Ordnance Medium Maintenance Company
  547th Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Company
554th Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Company (Tank)
  557th Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Company

The 554th Engineer Heavy Ponton Battalion was also assigned to the US Ninth Army, but NOT assigned to the 60th Ordnance Group.
       Good Luck with your quest.

  Respectfully,

Expertise

Can answer: World War Two. Specifically, the troop transport ships that took US Military Personnel overseas & returned them to the US, 1941-47. Also, unit history of US Army QM, Signal, MP, Ordnance, Medical, Transportation & Engineer units that served during WW 2. The more obscure units are my specialty. If you have the APO that a Veteran sent letters from or received letters at, I can look up the history of that APO.
