Additional information on SS Marine Panther.  My grandfather, Johnson N. Armitstead served as a Troop Transport Chaplain and sailed on the Marine Panther.  I have his personal diaries and the ship left Pier 84 in NYC on Feb 3 enroute to LeHavre arriving Feb 16.  It then sailed to Southhampton arriving there on Feb 20.  It carried at least 141 german prisoners on its return trip and arrived at pier 84 on March 9th 1945.  I also have a receipt signed by the ship's purser C Schmidt acknowledging he received $24.50 from Capt Johnson Armitstead for subsistence received on the trip (70 cents a day for 35 days).

Expertise

Can answer: World War Two. Specifically, the troop transport ships that took US Military Personnel overseas & returned them to the US, 1941-47. Also, unit history of US Army QM, Signal, MP, Ordnance, Medical, Transportation & Engineer units that served during WW 2. The more obscure units are my specialty. If you have the APO that a Veteran sent letters from or received letters at, I can look up the history of that APO.
