My mom's dad was killed in action we believe crossing the Roer or Ruhr River. We are not sure. My mom says he was in Belgium in February 1945 and I believe this is when he was killed. I guess I was just hoping to gather some info about his movements in the war and what happened to him. His full name was Ira Paul Lawless Jr. and his number was 37733342. He was from Wichita, KS.I have not been able to find much about his company. My mom was a child when he was killed, and I think any information we could find would help feel a connection.
Thank you for your time and attention.

Dear Ms.,
Thank you for your question.  To begin, please read "My Fathers Record - Anything" about Linda's father, also assigned to the 1st Battalion, 334th Infantry Regiment, 84th Infantry Division.  Many of the FACTS I shared with her are applicable toward your grandfather.
As to what to include in your letter-of-request for the I.D.P.F., include the following, just as I have typed it here.

Name:   Lawless, Ira P., Jr.

Rank:   Private, First Class

Serial Number:   37733342

Entered Service From:   Sumner County, Kansas

Unit:   Company C, 1st Battalion, 334th Infantry Regiment, 84th Infantry Division

Date K.I.A.:   February 25, 1945

Your grandfather was K.I.A. in the vicinity of Hetzerath, Germany, east of the Roar River.
       Good Luck with your quest.

Can answer: World War Two. Specifically, the troop transport ships that took US Military Personnel overseas & returned them to the US, 1941-47. Also, unit history of US Army QM, Signal, MP, Ordnance, Medical, Transportation & Engineer units that served during WW 2. The more obscure units are my specialty. If you have the APO that a Veteran sent letters from or received letters at, I can look up the history of that APO.
