Question
Hello,
I am curious as to the age Spartan boys were taken from their homes and family life to begin training for military and combat service.  I am also interested in knowing what this training involved, and the structure and organization of it.  Any info or insight on this topic would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for your time!
Cheers,
Beth

Answer
Dear Beth,
Spartan boys were trained in three stages:

*1st Stage-6/7 years old to 17.

*2nd Stage-17 years to 20.

*3rd Stage-20 years to 29/30.

The following books will give you a more detailed understanding of the Spartan training system:

*Spartan Warrior, 735-331 B.C. by Duncan B. Campbell

*Sparta At War by Scott M. Rusch

May God Bless,
