Military Policy & Weapons/Maintenance costs for military vehicles?

How much does maintaining a main battle tank or an infantry fighting vehicle cost per year?

This is a complicated question that varies alot from country to country depending on currency, military budget differencies, fuel costs, salaries etc.

It also depends on life cycle vs. usage.

A western-european country would probably  spend around 1000 to 1500 US dollar per 10 km driven to sustain a main battle tank system. That would include fuel, workshop hours, spare parts. Not ammunition and tank crew salaries.

An infantry combat vehicle probably ranges between 500 to 1000 US dollars per 10 km depending on complexity.

A tough question, I can only give a rather broad answer I'm afraid.

You are welcome back with another question if the answer wasn't specific enough

Im capable of answering many of your questions about modern Main Battle Tanks and their configuration/construction/sub-systems. I can also tell you a thing or two about MBT ammunition like the DU-projectiles and Hollow Charge munitions if you like.

I work as a technical officer in the Swedish armoured corps. I work on a daily basis with modern systems like the Leopard 2 MBT and the CV9040 IFV. This is something I have done for more than 10 years.
