Question
We’ve found a similar rig here in Corvallis Oregon - 1984 that was used as a Fire Command Vehicle.  ~85K miles on the body/transmission.  The injector pump was shot (they said because it sat so much – not sure if that was during active service or when it was at the auction lot). A working engine, supposedly from a similar M1009 with ~40k was swapped in.  Runs well (to someone who has never had a diesel nor is a mechanic).  Good rubber (Les Schwab Wild Country) w/ new spare.  Newer batteries.  Rear ROP bar.  $2000 OBO.  Oil was changed out but other fluids not yet.  Have snapshots.
Can you coach us through what we should ask our mechanic to check out on this thing? We’d like to talk with you, too, so we can steer clear of it (per our mechanic friends that say the 6.2 is problematic) – or – aggressively go after it and try to talk the seller down.

What we are after is a good reliable tow rig to haul a horse trailer around to 4H activities that is easy for my wife and soon-to-be-driving Freshman daughter.
