Minneapolis - city block names by numbers
Expert: Richard Kronick - 9/15/2008
Question I often see in police reports that incidents happened on a block that is numbers (ex. shooting happened on the 5000 block...)and not by street intersections. How do I decipher where they are talking about?
Answer Joseph:
In Minneapolis and suburbs, houses are numbered according to the cross sreets. For example, if they say "the 5000 block of Lyndale Ave. So.," they mean the block between 50th and 51st Streets in South Minneapolis.
By the way, this is completely different from St. Paul, where house numbers are an approximate measurement -- supposedly the number of yards from where the street begins.
