QUESTION: Ok then, which African religions are non-theistic?
Answer greetings keith,
thanks for writing.
the key word is 'religions' next is 'africa'.
a spiritual practice that is not theistic doesn't necessarily fall under the nomenclature of being called a religion. first it may be a good idea for you to define what 'religion' means in the context of your question.
there are many spiritual practices around the world that aren't centered around the belief in a deity or deities, which leads me to 'africa'.
since africa is a continent that is very diverse of course the answer is yes...your question would be similar to asking the same of the northern hemisphere.( are they any northern hemisphere religions that are non-theistic?)
it may be helpful to take some time to look at the continent of africa as a continent with several different 'sovereign countries/nations' within it and people within those areas all behaving and believing quite differently than some who live perhaps 1000 miles away within the same continent.
finally there are many faith practices that are not centered around a supreme deity and most likely would be centered around ancestral veneration. for an example, you may learn about the practitioners of that way of spirituality but you wouldn't be able to learn the name of their religion, because they don't have one. do you understand?
look at the sangomas of south africa. they are not part of a religion. but they are leaders and practitioners of a spiritual practice/faith practice. so you can't find out the name of their religion because they don't have one, but they are non-theistic.
live peacefully,
