About Doug Farmwald Expertise I have taught in high schools since 1992. My license areas are Economics, History, and Political Science. I have worked with special education populations (emotional handicap and learning disabled) since I began teaching. Consequently, I have taught most subjects at the high school level.
Question I was wondering if there was a way to find out the standard material that they go through at the 10th grade level in the U.S. (or if there is a state standard, then in Minnesota).
Thank you,
Helen
Answer Hi Helen,
As odd as it may sound, there is no such thing as a standard curriculum at national or at most state levels. Curriculum decisions are the province of the local school board within very broad guidelines provided by the state and the organization providing accreditation to the school.
Both the national and state governments provide recommendations and have developed model curricula but the local school board is not bound to follow these. To find out more specific information the best place to call is your local school district and speak with the person responsible for curriculum development.
At the state level, you can contact the MN Department of Children, Families, and Learning through:
www.mnlincs.org/state/state.htm
To find guidelines on a broader level look up the U. S. Department of Education and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (the group which provides accreditation to local schools). You can find both easily by typing them into any stndard search engine.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need any additional information.
