Miscellaneous Education - Software for Toddlers

Expert: sucoe - 1/30/2001

Question
I have heard that educational software games are sold for very young preschool (even as young as 2) children. Can you recommend any? Where would I buy them?

Answer
Dear Laura,
I don't follow software for young children because I believe they require hands-on materials for learning. The developmental world of the preschooler is one of objects and manipulation. Reading, which is essentially the skill required to push buttons and understand symbols, is a developmental skill which occurs later.
Children can acquire computer skills easily even if they are not exposed to computers until a much older age.
