AboutLinda Expertise I have done a lot of work on older Mitsubishi's. Whatever has gone on with someone's car has I am sure happen to the one I work on. A lot of things, though might be the computer it could be a sensor too. Whatever I am not sure of, I will then hunt up the question useing the net. Don't know much about body work or painting a car.
Experience The Mitsubishi Eclipse I work on has over 167,000 miles on it. If it could go wrong it has. I have learned a lot from working on the car, reading books and asking people who work on other cars.
Organizations Church, I am a Christian.
Education/Credentials Have some college course on engines, working on them and keeping them repaired. Read a lot of books and try to stay ahead of things.
I own a 1994 TS magna. When the car is started it makes a loud rattle noise which soon dissapears. However when the car is in gear, the rattle comes back.
I first thought that it was mt cooling fan hitting the housing but checked this snd it was fine. a friend said that it might be engine timing chain. However when topped with Transmission fluid the rattle goes aways. but after driving for about 10 mins above 60 klm the rattle comes back. Do you have any idea what this might be ?? Thanks
Answer Sam: Try checking the drive belts,or pulley running those belts, it could be you have a bearing going in one of those. Another thing would be to check and make sure all the engine mounts are tight. They do sometimes come loose with age. Has the car had the timing chain changed at 60,000 miles? Though I have not heard of one of those rattling before it breaks. It sounds like to me that there is something loose someplace and it rattles only at a high rate of speed. I wish I could hear the noise to know what it sounds like. You might get the transmission fluid and filter changed to see if that might fix the problem. There are all kinds of bolts holding the transmission cover on, maybe one of those or more had come loose. But then are you seeing puddles of pink fluid under your car? When is the last time you tuned the car up? It might need to be timed and that would stop the rattle, I wish I had a better idea for you. But there are some ideas to check, anyway. God bless: Linda
