AboutAnthony Falcone Expertise I have been working with (and driving) a first generation Mitsubishi Eclipse for several years. Anything that could go wrong with an Eclipse has probably happened on mine. Fortunately, I have gained a lot of knowledge from experience in repairing these problems myself.

Question I have a 1998 Eclipse RS, the problem I am having is when I go to start the car with just the key. The car tries to start but doesn't. I have to start the car with pressing the gas pedal in order for the car to start. I replace the battery and installed new spark plugs. Please advise.
Answer Kenneth,
You may have a clog in your air intake or fuel system. By stepping on the gas pedal while starting, not only are you trying to force fuel into the engine, you are also opening the throttle body plate to get more air into the engine as well. You should try to replace your air filter and fuel filter. You may also want to consider cleaning out your throttle body and adding a bottle of good fuel system cleaner during your next fill up.
Good luck!
