Mitsubishi Repair/weird problem with belt

I have the 1998 year model of the same car and i have exactly the same problem.  After 15 years of operation, the car started throwing the exact same belt you described.  All the suggestions you made have been tried yet the belt still comes off on start up.  Also, the idler pully for the air conditioner belt is totally seperate from the belt tension adjustment for the belt(s) that drive the alternator, the power steering pump and the water pump.

I have been working with (and driving) a first generation Mitsubishi Eclipse for several years. Anything that could go wrong with an Eclipse has probably happened on mine. Fortunately, I have gained a lot of knowledge from experience in repairing these problems myself.

Identifying and repairing problems in mechanical and electrical areas. Plus, I have learned many ways to enhance performance to the incredible engine Mitsubishi put in their early model Turbos.
