About Frank Edgcombe
Expertise
I CAN NOT DIAGNOSE equipment problems or ESTIMATE DOLLAR VALUES of your equipment, by email. I have been active in model railroading for forty years. I can answer, or find answers, to questions on most aspects of model trains, railroad equipment or buildings. I have a good knowledge of prototype railroads. I have been employed by five model railroad equipment manufacturers/suppliers and worked for a prototype railroad. I have served, twice, as the president of a local model railroad club. I have been employed as a Reference Librarian, at a university, for the last fifteen years and am used to tracking down resources for patrons.

Question
Dear Frank,
I am somewhat embarrassed to ask this question because I screwed up.  I had a running Am Fly Hudson...then I acquired from a friend another Am Fly of the same type, although this was a Pacific from a antique shop...Well I switched tenders and for a short time, the Pacific ran great....However now neither one moves...The head light comes on, the drum inside the tender moves....but the reversing unit doesn't seem to connect with the locomotive motor.  Any suggestions...JB

Answer
Hi!  John.  Thanks for your question.  I sorry its really difficult to trouble shoot problems over the Internet.  I would presume you have a wiring problem, either a short, broken wire or bad connection.  Could be any one of these.  Here are some links to wiring diagrams.

If it isn't a wiring problem then you have a defective component, motor, reversing unit connector etc.  You can only check them out by elimination, one by one.  I hope this helps. Frank
