Monitor Problems - CRT monitor (LG FLATRON E700SH) problem

Expert: Chris Morrison - 7/20/2008

Question
sir,
i am using a LG FLATRON E700SH model crt monitor from May 2006.  since last two months i see some occasional flashes in the screen (like when voltage varies in a fluorescent tube light).  i checked by connecting a voltage stabilizer.  still the problem persists.  I can not observe any periodicity in the occurrence of flashes or its intensity. i  do not find any problems while booting up or in the quality of pictures.  last week a service man came to fix the problem.  he opened up the cabinet and re soldered some connections saying that such problems occur when the soldering dries up (i could not understand).  at that time the flashes did not appear for a long period.  now there are still low intensity flashes while I am working.  any problems in CPU ? please help. I may say that all the problems started after day when I had to transport this computer along a bumpy road.  prior to that day, everything was OK.

Answer
Buy some canned air from an office supply store. use the canned air to blow out all the vent holes of the monitor. Also unplug the monitor.
Also open your computer case and use the canned air to blow the computer out also. Pay special attention to fans and the power supply. The power supply will have vent holes on  2 sides make sure you blow in both vents really well.
If you have an add on video card, make sure it is snug in its, slot. You may want to actually remove it and reinsert it into it's slot.Leave the monitor unplugged for about one day. Move any speakers away from the monitor. After about one day plug the monitor back in. Use the buttons on the front to enter the monitor menu and if reset is available choose to reset. Also run thr degause feature.
