Monitor Problems - Dell monitor will not display full screen?

Expert: Chris Morrison - 7/12/2008

Question
I have been using a Dell monitor with my Dell Vostro 1400 laptop for the past 6 months.  95% of the time, it displays on the full screen of my 20 Dell monitor.  Everyonce and a while, after I travel with my laptop and re-connect I am not able to view the entire screen.  I have about 2 inches on top and bottom of screen that are black.  I've played around with Graphic Options and Graphic Properties (right clicking desktop) and nothing seems to work.  Last time this happed I simply re-booted and the problem was resolved.  That is not working this time.  Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Answer
The monitor is not being detected properly that is why is used to work when you rebooted. Just go to Dells site and go to support. enter your service number and browse to the drivers. Download and install the newest video driver for your system. Reboot and try the monitor again, It should work correctly now.
