Monitor Problems - Escape from Power Save Mode

Expert: Chris Morrison - 7/5/2008

Question
I have a Sony Multiscan Trinitron G200 hooked up to a Gateway laptop (that has a broken monitor). The G200 has gone into "power save mode". I recall this happening in the past and I was able to take it out of this mode. Now, however, the laptop screen is fully broken and I'm unable to take a chance trying to re-figure it out. I've tried shutting both the laptop and Sony monitor down. What else might work? Thanks in advance!

Answer
if the laptop is recognizing the xternal monitor and you can see the boot screen, you can turn off the power saving features by entering safe mode (keep pressing F8 before windows loads).
If not use the monitor menu buttons on the front of the monitor to see if it has a built in energy saver mode. Turn it off if it does.
If the laptop is defaulting to the laptop monitor that is not working, your not going to be able to change that with out ketting something on screen with the external. Make sure it is plugged into the video port before you turn on the laptop.
