Monitor Problems - Monitor goes into off mode within 5 seconds of starting up

Question My ViewSonic monitor has been working fine. This morning I got up and it will not complete the initial startup. It begins the windows start up and then goes into "off mode in 5 seconds" where it goes black and will not respond. The light on the monitor stays on. By hitting the power center switch off and waiting a few minutes, the monitor will come back on and again go into off mode in 5 seconds. Help....
Answer Purchase some canned air from an office supply store.
Use the canned air to blow out all the vent holes of the monitor.
Unplug the monitor and leave it unplugged for about 1 day.
open the computer case and use the canned air to blow out your case. pay special attention to fans and the power supply.
If you have an add-on video card, remove it from it's slot and reinsert it snuggly.
After about 1 day plug the monitor back in and use the buttons on the front to enter the monitor menu. Choose reset from the menu.
Check function. If the problem persists try the monitor on another computer or laptop. If the problem goes away on another computer you'll need to replace your video card.
If the problem persists on another computer the monitor will need to be repaired or replaced.
